Hi! My name is Rosalie Richards and I am an Episcopal priest and, now, a writer too.
How I became a writer is, for me, a story about an adventure. In 2011 I went to Egypt and rode a friendly camel. It was an amazing year, my diocese sent me to Bogota, Colombia with a group of people, I had been to St. Catherine's monastery in Sinai to visit the icon named The Sinai Christ, and I was figuring out how I would write Alive and Speaking, a book that stretches orthodoxy, without mentioning it to the people in my parish that I loved and worked with (impossible).
While still trying to figure that out, the week I got back from Bogota, I had the yearly MRI, and the results came back---MS. That was the beginning of Beyond MS Your Best Life, but it was also the beginning of a year-long lament song in my life. It takes going through the wilderness, I found out, to get out on the other side.
With my dear friend and coauthor Jackie Waitkus I finished writing Alive and Speaking while still reeling from the diagnosis, and a wonderful sister of mine put me in touch with a high school friend with MS...and from that conversation I found out that there is life beyond MS, a wonderful exciting life. I kept talking to inspiring and vibrant people with MS, and that became Beyond MS Your Best Life.
Since MS I have moved to the mountains of Northern New Hampshire, been to Cuenca, visited the Ingapierca ruins, discovered the fun of exercise (it doesn't stop with MS, like I had thought), climbed up to see local waterfalls, learned that at my age in my situation I can still volunteer with prisoners--basically I have found that life continues in somehow a more brilliant and loving way beyond MS.
Jackie and I are contemplating a Spirit series, and small pieces will be coming before that happens. Amazing women and men with and without MS are helping me form the next piece in the Beyond MS series, and so, writing has become what I always hoped it would be--the way to connect with the world and with my own soul journey and with the stories of people I meet.
Thanks for coming to my page. I would love to hear your story (see the Contact Rosalie page) and I would love to tell you about my books. I hope you visit their dedicated pages on this website--Alive and Speaking and Beyond MS Your Best Life and Beyond MS--Get Moving! (click on the links below). Meanwhile, have a wonderful journey!

My more recent story is above, but longer ago I studied to become a priest (M.Div.) and later received an M.S.W. from Colombia University and a Ph.D. from the University of Texas School of Public health.
My passion is exploring the human spirit, and my books describe how we can discover our inner -- and outer -- abilities and open doors in our lives.
I am available for speaking events and book signings. If you would like to set up an event, please go to the “Contact Rosalie” page.
